How Unmotivated Presence Affects Working Life

How unjustified presence affects working life

For quite some time, the company has been affected by workers who do not arrive on time for work or who do not get there at all. This causes companies to lose money, but now it has taken on a new form. A new trend has emerged that is worse than the previous one: unjustified presence.

What is this? Unmotivated presence means that you spend a lot of time doing things that are not work-related. It is a problem that is associated with the balance between personal life and work life. The employees have to take the children to school and take care of sick family members and so much more.

Lack of motivation, frustration and bad relationships with employees are very common reasons why employees are absent or have an unjustified presence. The bigger difference is that in the latter case, the employees are at work but they do not do much work.

The economic crisis has contributed to the unjustified presence. The fear of getting rid of the job has meant that many unmotivated workers have stopped working, even if this means that they spend their days being frustrated and bored. Many of them take long lunch breaks or go out and smoke, and use the internet for non-work-related purposes, such as playing games.

Unjustified presence affects not only the company’s productivity, but also the health of workers. The lack of motivation and clear goals at work can give rise to depression. The same thing happens with employees who go to work and are sick. It is not only pointless to expose your colleagues to risks of infection; it is also dangerous.

Unfortunately, some companies force their employees to work unpaid overtime in exchange for not being fired. This is shameful and dubious behavior from a legal point of view. But the worker accepts this because he or she is afraid of retaliation. We are therefore dealing with situations where an unethical advantage precedes the search for alternatives that optimize the worker’s time and performance.

Unmotivated presence at work has a solution, but it will create problems if you are too strict because this will only make the employees stressed and give them anxiety. This will only make them avoid working in other ways. Companies that are too strict also risk punishing people who are really motivated.

Concrete measures that focus on getting feedback from employees can have much more positive effects. We are talking about social recognition, group-level recognition and also individual recognition. If the employees feel that their work is appreciated, they will be motivated again. It is good that companies emphasize when workers do something good, and not just when they do something bad.

It can also help with programs that help the worker express their creativity. In these cases, we want there to be a change of attitude, and not just for the worker to follow the rules due to fear. The nicer the workplace, the better the results will be.

It is also good to make working hours more flexible so that employees can also manage their family life, which will have an indirect effect on how motivated they are. An employment that allows workers to balance their work and family life, as many employments do nowadays, is undoubtedly beneficial. Employees will be grateful for this, especially if the company did not offer this opportunity earlier.

If the employee feels satisfied with their job, positive changes will occur. It is much better to try to help the worker improve his situation than to introduce extreme measures.
