Suffering is the root of many mental problems

Many mental problems have their roots in suffering. Especially in the sense that we give it. The interesting thing is that it is not something theoretical.

It is actually part of a psychological technique called logo therapy. It focuses on the meaning of human existence, and on man’s search for meaning.

There are many different mental illnesses, and they all manifest themselves in their specific ways. They are generally characterized by a combination of thought changes, perceptions, emotions, behaviors and relationships with others.

The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that effective treatments for mental illness are what alleviate the suffering they cause.

We should also mention that the prevalence of mental illness is still increasing. It has serious effects on people’s health and major consequences on both a socio – economic and human level. And this is true for all countries.

Who is most at risk for mental illness?

Every fourth person will have some form of mental health problem in life. We understand mental health as a harmonized way of relating to oneself and others. Like maintaining a good social level and quality of life no matter what phase the person is in or what their expectations are.

This can change due to various reasons. Life brings problems and we react to the painful situations they cause. But we should not see them as diseases. They are diseases if they last a long time or are of an extremely sensitive nature.

What determines mental health and mental illness does not only include individual characteristics. It also includes our ability to deal with our thoughts, feelings, behaviors and interactions with other people.

There are also social, cultural, political, economic and environmental factors. Here we are thinking of national politics, social security, quality of life, work permits or support from the environment.

Other factors that can play a role in mental illness are stress, genes, food, perinatal infections and environmental risks.

How suffering causes many mental problems

There are diseases that manifest themselves at the same levels in almost every culture and country. On the other hand, there are some who have more specific reasons.

Some are related to social, familial, cultural, socio-economic conditions, etc. There are also genetic factors that put people at risk for certain types of diseases and factors related to gender.

But a decline in mental health is especially significant when it is a product of much suffering. If this suffering changes the way a person lives, and perceives and understands things. We should also mention that it can come from different sources, whether it is biological, psychosocial or social.

We must also keep in mind that every person at some point in life can end up in the wrong circumstances. For example, they may have an emotional problem and a great deal of pain that has a direct impact on their lives and gives rise to many mental problems.

However, there are specific, necessary factors that affect whether or not it is a mental illness. These occur on many levels, but whether they are biological, psychological or social, current or past, the suffering grows so much that they become mentally ill.
